Government Office, Ireland: Friday Afternoon

When I first started here, old ladies told tales of looser days
When every Unit had a kettle and Fridays, after lunch, there’d be nothing done.
Just talk and tea and killing time then going home.
‘Don’t work too fast, now. You’ll get no thanks for it.’
– Early advice from a long-time girl who had the score-
She used to keep an ashtray in her top desk drawer.
By now, I’ve a fair few years put in here myself an’ all.
I vape electronic cigarettes in the ground floor men’s room stall.
